Upcoming Event

Wounded Healers is for pastors, ministry leaders, therapists, or anyone who wants to care for those who have religious trauma. The Global Center for Religious Research estimates that 15-20% of American adults currently experience religious trauma (i.e., 40-60 million people) — it’s a reality that touches most people’s lives. In this training you will:

  • Participate in embodied spiritual practices

  • Learn stories and concepts related to religious trauma

  • Consider fresh theological imagination about abuse and trauma

  • Explore postures and practices of healing trauma

  • Create an action plan for how you can continue to grow as a healer

The event is located at Grace Presbytery (6100 Colwell Blvd. Irving, Texas, 75039).

In-person cost is $95. Lunch, snacks, and materials are provided with registration.

Virtual cost (via Zoom) is $75. Digital materials are provided. Interaction with in-person participants and virtual breakouts.

Meet the Facilitators

Rev. Dr. Charles Kiser and Dr. Mallory Wyckoff bring years of experience in working with those who have experienced religious trauma. They bring their teaching and training gifts to bear in this workshop.

  • Mallory (DMin, MTS, MA) is a writer, speaker, spiritual director, and peacemaker. She is the author of God Is, which explores an array of feminine imagery, language, and metaphors for the Divine. She serves as associate director of philanthropy communications for Search for Common Ground, the world’s largest peacebuilding organization. She also directs The Healing Collective Center for Spiritual Formation, where she trains spiritual directors. Her doctoral research focused on the impact of sexual trauma on survivors’ theological perception and spiritual formation. In all her work, Mallory creates spaces and content that help people access themselves and their spirituality with curiosity, honesty, and courage. A native Floridian, she lives by the beach with her husband, daughters, and a million retirees.

  • Charles Kiser is a pastor, theologian, author, coach, and trainer. He is the coauthor with Elaine Heath of Trauma-Informed Evangelism: Cultivating Communities of Wounded Healers, which emerged out of his sixteen-year pastoral work among spiritually traumatized folks in Dallas, Texas. Charles is also the Regional Area Developer for the Dallas-Fort Worth region of the Post-Evangelical Collective, an organization that seeks to connect and resource post-evangelical leaders and cultivate new post-evangelical churches that function as healing communities. Charles holds a doctorate in contextual theology and his work focuses on the intersection of post-colonial mission, contemplative spirituality, and trauma healing. He lives in the Dallas area with his wife, their three kids, and their frenetic Boston Terrier, Gus.

Brett Tilford, Pastor of The Table in Sachse, Texas

“The Healing Collective has been a wonderful source of coaching and encouragement to myself and our entire leadership team as we’ve navigated the intersection of religion and spiritual trauma. Church ministry today requires a ‘trauma informed’ approach and I don’t know anyone who can help guide an organization in that direction better than The Healing Collective. Highly recommend.”
