OUR SERVICES

  • We offer coaching for faith leaders who desire to integrate trauma-informed frameworks into their practice of leadership and the culture and systems of their congregations. Our coaching paradigm focuses on the agency of the leader, the gifts and wisdom of the Spirit within them, and their own discernment about what makes most sense in their context in light of what they have learned about religious trauma healing.

Coaches in The Healing Collective are not sources of advice or best practices but rather deep listeners who draw out leaders’ beliefs, values, and motives through thoughtful questions. Coaching is spiritual discernment with a bias to action, through which leaders identify how the Spirit of God is at work in and around them and then decide how to act—how to collaborate with God in that moment. Our approach to coaching is not about strategic plans and long-term visions, but rather about discerning faithful next steps, which often reveal the next faithful steps. Coaching supports adaptive, responsive, agile leadership.

Coaching is available both for individuals or groups. We commonly coach pastors as well as their leadership teams. Because of our empowering and non-directive approach to coaching, it is most effective for integrating trauma-informed perspectives when leaders have also engaged our cohorts, retreats, and workshops to grow in their knowledge and personal formation regarding trauma healing. Coaching terms begin with a six-month commitment to either monthly or bi-weekly sessions and can be renewed for additional six month periods as needed. • Workshops are an opportunity for leaders, teams, and congregations to grow in their awareness and understanding of religious trauma and practices and postures for healing. To ensure participants can readily digest and integrate information about trauma-informed ministry for use in their respective contexts, we employ best practices for adult learning in our workshops—full of experiences, practices, and dialogue. Workshops are often a good first step into one’s own journey of healing where individuals can gain awareness of stories and concepts of trauma and healing without having to first share the depths of their own story and experiences.

Our flagship workshop is Becoming Wounded Healers: Responding to Religious Trauma, offered in half-day and full-day formats. It includes three elements: 1) stories and concepts related to spiritual abuse, moral injury, adverse religious experiences, and trauma; 2) theological reflection about abuse and trauma (i.e., how God experiences and responds to abuse and trauma); and 3) practices and postures for being a wounded healer in the lives of those who have religious trauma. We also offer a Trauma-Informed Spaces workshop, which equips congregational and community leaders to cultivate trauma-informed and trauma-responsive cultures and environments within their contexts.

Our team also curates customized workshops in partnership with congregations and faith leaders, planning and facilitating events that best serve the needs of a given group and context. Reach out if you’d like to host one of the workshops above or tailor a workshop experience for your community.

  • The Healing Collective hosts virtual small-group cohorts for church and faith leaders seeking to become wounded healers. The groups gather weekly for theological reflection and practical discussion, engaging practices that help participants access themselves and their stories more fully. The experience helps leaders both inventory their past sources of wounding and identify present sources of resilience for moving forward in whole, integrated ways—for themselves, and for their communities.

We also host virtual cohorts for religious trauma survivors that meet weekly for a season to engage teaching, discussion, reflection upon their own stories, and practices for body/brain regulation. We create a safe and brave container for survivors to share and honor the agency of participants to determine the depth of their interaction in cohort gatherings.

  • The Healing Collective hosts curated retreats for religious trauma survivors, facilitating opportunities for deep reflection and truth-telling. Drawing on years of experience working with survivors of various kinds of trauma, our team gently holds space for attendees to identify, name, and process the pain and grief of wounds inflicted in the name of God or faith. We model a trauma-informed approach, affirming attendees’ agency and will to determine their engagement within and beyond the retreats. We honor each individual’s journey, prioritizing safety and care.

Retreats are hosted throughout the year in various locations.

  • In a world that never slows down, where chaos around and within demand near constant attention, time and space for quiet reflection often feel like a luxury. But the truth is that the world desperately needs human beings who are centered and grounded, awake to themselves and to Spirit’s work within them. Spiritual direction nurtures this kind of posture—a sacred pause in the midst of the noise, a chance to reflect, listen, and notice.

As part of our mission to participate in the healing of all things, The Healing Collective offers small-group spiritual direction led by Dr. Mallory Wyckoff. Sessions include both individual and group sharing and discernment in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere.

Together, Mallory and participants create a space where one can:

    —Embrace stillness amidst chaos

—Name one’s thoughts, questions, and desires freely and fully

    —Notice Spirit’s movements within oneself

—Connect deeply with Self and with God

    —Honor one’s inner knowing

    —Practice discernment in loving community

    —Learn attentive listening skills

In each session, participants are gently led in exploring their spiritual lives, while also benefiting from the insights of the group. With a slow, unhurried pacing, space is held for for each person to reflect on their journey without rushing, without distraction.
